Rosalia's Menagerie InnUpstairs is not a chain hotel. We are a six-room boutique hotel hidden above our cocktail bar in a 17th-century canal house on Kloveniersburgwal. Inspired by the Dutch Golden Age menageries, the hotel combines collected curiosities, personal hospitality, and a genuine Amsterdam atmosphere that cannot be replicated by larger properties.

We are located on Kloveniersburgwal, one of Amsterdam's oldest canals. Our location places guests between Nieuwmarkt, Dam Square, Chinatown, the historic city centre, and the old Jewish Quarter. Many of Amsterdam's major attractions can be reached on foot.

Room check-in starts at 15:00 (3pm) until 23:00 (11pm). We do ask that you let us know your flight number or train arrival time so we can anticipate your arrival at the hotel. Unfortunately, check-in after midnight is not possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Please be aware that this is especially important if you will be arriving in the morning or after 18:00 (6pm). If you are arriving before 15:00 (3pm) you will be more than welcome to store your bags starting at 8am with us until your room is ready.

You would need to check-out of your room by 12:00pm, but you are more than welcome to store your bags with us if you are leaving Amsterdam later in the day.

During Amsterdam's Golden Age, wealthy merchants filled their homes with unusual objects, discoveries, and treasures from around the world. Rosalia's Menagerie was inspired by that tradition and by the famous Menagerie Blauw Jan, creating a place where travel, history, cocktails, stories, and hospitality come together.

No. As with many authentic Amsterdam canal houses, access is via traditional staircases. Guests seeking historic character generally see this as part of the experience.

Unfortunately, the hotel building is not suitable for physically challenged guests. The monumental canal houses of the city center are very charming, but also come with 15th-17th century staircases.

Since we do not have an elevator, and our stairs are typical for Amsterdam (i.e. steep and narrow), we are more than willing to carry your bags to the room for you! We do strongly recomment and appreciate it when you pack light and bring smaller bags.

Yes. Amsterdam Central Station is within walking distance, making train arrivals, airport transfers, and day trips easy and convenient.

Our website offers the best available rates and direct-booking benefits. Booking directly also allows you to communicate with us personally before arrival and helps support an independent Amsterdam hotel rather than paying commission to large booking platforms.

We have only six rooms. This allows us to offer a more personal experience and gives guests the feeling of staying in a private Amsterdam canal house rather than a large hotel.

We are a 18+ hotel and not suitable for children.

A maximum of 2 rooms for a maximum of 4 guests can be booked per party. We do not accept any groups larger than 4 guests, even when booking separately. Thank you for your understanding.

Yes. A freshly prepared breakfast is included and served daily. The breakfast features local products including Dutch artisan cheese and fresh bread from local suppliers. Breakfast served from 8:00 am until 11:00 am daily.

Gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegan options are available upon request with at least 24 hours in advance notice.

Yes. We can accommodate dietary requirements, including vegan and gluten-free options, when notified in advance.

Each room is individually designed with comfortable king-size beds, modern amenities, and unique character. Some rooms overlook the historic canal while others face the quieter garden side of the building.

For the comfort of all of our guests, no pets are allowed.

Yes. We can arrange taxi transfers between Schiphol Airport and the hotel.

We can arrange for a car service  to be waiting for you just outside the airport to bring you directly to the hotel for a fixed rate of €69 (for 1-3 persons & mobile phone number necessary for this rate). Taxi vans are available for 4-6 persons at a rate of €79.
